Sedation Dentistry Honolulu Hawaii

Do you feel uneasy when you think of undergoing a dental treatment? Are you scared of needles? Do you avoid visiting a dentist just because you feel uncomfortable when sitting in dentist’s chair? You are not the only one who feels like this. Termed as dental phobia – the fear of visiting a dentist often has harmful effects on people. It is one of the major barriers which comes in the way of people from taking care of their teeth. The fear can push people to an extent where they are ready to bear a toothache just to avoid an appointment with the dentist.

Sedation dentistry helps such patients manage fear and anxiety by keeping them calm and peaceful during the treatment. Sedatives are chemicals which have the property of keeping patients in a relaxed state. Since the level of anxiety and stress exhibited by each person is different from the other, we follow various types of techniques in sedation dentistry in our office in Honolulu, HI to see that patients are relaxed and have no trouble to visit our practice.

Sedation Dentistry – Is it a need?

Not every person is afraid of dental treatment. Some people may find it difficult to sit through long procedures while others may have the fear of needles. Sedation dentistry can be used as a relaxation technique for all types of anxieties. At our dental practice, our dentist asks questions related to when and how patients feel anxious during a dental visit to find out what type of sedative suits the patient. Nitrous Oxide is used as a sedative for people who are less anxious and need a simple sedative just to relax slightly during the treatment. Oral sedatives are the ones which are slightly stronger and should be consumed by patients before visiting our practice. Patients should be driven to our office and back home by a caretaker when under oral sedation. IV sedation technique is also one of the sedation dentistry procedures we use in our office where sedative is directly administered into the bloodstream of patients.
